Excursion 3: Targeting

Welcome to Targeting!  Your previous excursions have been preparing to set personal priorities. The targeting process takes those priorities a step further by specifically focusing in on your ideal college.

In the Targeting phase of the program, you will begin with a bit of research, and then develop a target profile that you can use as a filter in generating a list of colleges.  We have provided several tools to help you learn basic information about colleges nationwide.  In our final lesson, you and your parents can review tips when speaking with college administrators or planning campus visits.

Some key points to remember:

• Don’t worry about creating the perfect target profile right away.  You may always skip questions or change your answers as you go through the exercise.
• Try to be specific in your comments.
• Remember, our goal is to produce a ranked list of target schools that have a mix of “Likely” and “Reach” schools.
