Live the Life You Have Always Imagined

I hope this new decade is off to a great start for you. Mine sure is. It has started with so much excitement about taking real steps to start living the life I have always imaged and creating the income streams to make it possible.

My last post, How to Keep New Year’s Resolutions, was in part based on the Pearl Jam song, Do The Evolution. What I didn’t mention in that post is one of the lines, is “2010, Watch it go to fire / It’s Evolution,” and yes, in 2010, it is like an evolution where I am celebrating this new way of life – to live the true me and do what I need to ensure my that dreamlines come true.

…but why I am sharing this with the world? I feel strongly that we can all live the life we have always imagined. Dear friends of mine who are highly educated, very smart and have great paying jobs seem stuck in a life they do not enjoy.

For example, when talking about vacations, I received this e-mail from a great friend that I have traveled with in the past and would like to in the future:

“I haven’t taken a vacation in years. People these days don’t have the vacation time or money to take trips. I have a hard enough time getting people to get away for a couple of hours, much more a couple of days. It stinks. Most people get 2 weeks of vacation a year. If I come home once for a few days every year and 1 friend comes out for a couple of days, I’m out of vacation. Even harder is to find a good time at work where I don’t leave my co workers in a bind by taking vacation days. If someone were to give me a free vacation for a week today, I couldn’t accept it.”

Receiving a message like this adds to my motivation to reach my goals and prove that a different kind of life can be created.

I’ve been in a bit of an “excitement cave” the past few days, but I thought I’d come out of the cave to briefly share what’s going on…

I call it the “Perfect Storm” due to all the knowledge gain, inspiration, circumstances and ‘must act now’ attitude hitting at the same time.

Without turning my blog into the “Tim Ferriss show,” I have to share his latest tips again because he keeps putting out such great stuff.

While I had listened to his book, The 4-Hour Workweek many times on CD, the only thing I asked for Christmas was the updated and expanded version of the book.

On Christmas day, I started my own 4 week challenge outlined by Tim in the book: Simply, to create an automated income stream that will cover expenses and when complete will consume less than one day of work per week.

I figured what better day than Christmas to celebrate the birth of my own new life on the day we already celebrate such a glorious birth.

This “challenge” is taking place while I have a precious almost 3 year old and 2 month old at home who are true blessings, but wake up at all hours of the night and while continuing to focus on my 20 hour per week job.

It’s now Day 12 of my 4 week challenge and it’s going well, but in addition to making progress, things continue to come into my life that have made it even better.

Have you ever found that when you fully commit to something, circumstances in life seem to present themselves to help you reach that goal? That’s what has been happening.

On day 9, I was really getting into creating the automated income stream, but was doing a ton of the work myself, feeling overwhelmed and had lost sight of one of Tim’s main points regarding outsourcing.

Enter one of the best blog posts ever with 15 real life case studies on people that have done it! …and now, I’m feeling excited and liberated, as I am outsourcing most of the tasks to complete the challenge.

On day 10, now that I had the time to focus more clearly on what would sell, how it would sell and being able to practice what I’ve preached in focusing on your purpose and passion in life and turning that into profit, I could ask more clearly, who is the real me?

Arriving in my mailbox on this day was the Frank Kern DVD on Core Influence. Essentially, getting out of your shell and letting the core of who you really are show to the world.

So, now I am focusing on being the real me, creating the income streams to be able to travel and live the life I have always imagined, but most importantly to be able to spend time with my loved ones and have the capability to give back to the world.

Therefore, you will see changes on this Path Insight website and other related websites next month. For now, I would suggest you subscribe to our RSS feed of this blog in the upper right corner of this page or join our mailing list, so you can be kept up to date with these developments as they all relate to helping others live the life they have always imagined with real steps to get there.

  1. :)

    Happy new year!

    Tim

  2. Many people can relate to the stress of work/family life balance especially as people are setting goals and resolutions in the new year. How do you find even more surplus time in a day to work out and exercise or improve your job performance/increase sales in the office? How can you vow to spend more time with friends and family in 2010 without work time compromised? A radical change in your day-to-day office role might be the answer. Get out of the cube and really start living! Of course, this might not be possible for all types of professions, but if you are someone who is motivated and creative perhaps 2010 is the year to make it happen! Work more efficiently (work less even) and have more time for the things you most enjoy in life!

  3. @Tim, Thanks. It’s always nice to have a #1 New York Times best selling author leave a comment on our blog!

@Summer. Right on. Great points! It sounds like you are ready to make 2010 the best year yet. All the best!

  4. Nice! Tim Ferris leaving a comment on your blog. Gotta say, never seen that before.

4HWW introduced me to many concepts which have changed the way I run my business. The outsourcing, I think, has had the greatest impact. Also, the book introduced me to the writings of AJ Jacobs. He wrote the “Outsourcing Life” section in the book. AJ is a great writer too and I had the opportunity to Q & A him recently and posted the interview on my blog. Never would’ve happened if it weren’t for the 4HWW.

Thanks for posting. Good way to start the decade.

  5. Patrick, thanks for telling me about this book over the holidays. I have only just begun reading the 4-Hour Work Week, but it has already changed the way I think more than anything I’ve ever read. In so many ways, I feel like Tim was describing me in the first part of the book. Working at jobs I don’t enjoy to save money for once a year vacations and a reitrement in the distant future. The good thing is I think I’ve always been good at working efficiently when I work, but just haven’t been good at using my extra time to live the life that my wife and I have always wanted. That changes in 2010. In fact, the change has already started and it is an amazing feeling.

  6. @ Ralph, yes, we enjoyed that, and as I mentioned on your blog, great interview. Yes, outsourcing certainly is a big help.

@ Josh, that’s awesome to hear. Truly, it’s replies that that make me more excited than just about anything else. I look forward to continuing the journey to what you want.
