Assuming you have already started the courses, here are the resources mentioned in the courses and book.  If you have found any resources particularly helpful, please add them as a comment below.

Unemployment Information

If you are seeking information related to filing unemployment to receive unemployment insurance benefits, click here for the Department of Labor site for additional information.  From this page, you will be able to access your individual state’s agency.

Health Insurance

Job seekers are often concerned about health insurance and the high price associated with paying for coverage from their employer after they are no longer with the company.  We suggest you work with your insurance professional to find the best plan for you.  A great place to look for rates is eHealthInsurance where you can find FREE Instant Quotes!

Branding Yourself

In a career search, a professional image is essential.   Developing a ‘brand’ for yourself will also be important.  By branding yourself you are marketing your best attributes and highlighting the unique professional qualities and skills you possess.  Plus, you will be attending a number of networking events where you will need business cards to share your brand and personal contact information with future leads to positions and business connections.

Vista Print allows you to print business cards for free!  Click the link below to access the site.  Plus, if you so choose to make a purchase, you will have access to amazing savings:

Creating a Resume

You should have all the knowledge you need to create a resume based on the instructions in the online course, but if you prefer to work with a consultant one-on-one, contact us about working with a consultant.

You will most likely not want to send out your resume as a Microsoft Word document because it can get distorted in email, so we recommend sending your resume as a PDF.  You can download a great, free tool for converting Word documents to PDFs at www.cutepdf.com.

As mentioned in our free online course, we suggest using networking to submit your resume to contacts at prospective employers, but we have had requests for resume distribution services.  If you are looking for one of these, here are several good options:

1. Resume Rabbit instantly submits your resume and job requirements on up to 75 top job sites including Monster, Job.com, CareerBuilder, Net-Temps, Dice and more so you can be seen by over 1.5 million employers and recruiters daily. It takes about 5 mintues to sign-up, is easy to use and costs around $60.

2. You can click here for ResumeZapper, which will e-mail your resume and cover letter for a fee of about $50 to headhunters who are targeted to your industry.

Assessments

Assessing your natural motivators, needs and interests is an important component in finding the job where you will thrive.  An entire section was devoted to assessments in our online classes. There are a number of assessments available.  Here are some of the best:

1. The Birkman Method® is the main assessment we use at Path Insight.  It provides very in depth feedback and a report with over 50 pages of results that is delivered by a certified Birkman consultant.  For more information on the Birkman Method®, click here. To sign-up to take the assessment, contact us.

2. AnalyzeMyCareer.com provides several assessments including Personality and Occupational for modest fees starting at $19.95 and provide instant feedback.

3. The Keirsey Temperament Sorter is based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This test assesses personality and has 70 questions. The basic version is free ($4.95 to $19.95 for a more detailed report).

Staying Informed
Keeping abreast of the news in your local market is very helpful to a job search.  You can get a feel for the economy and see articles on any companies that are hiring.  One of the best resources is local business news from bizjournals.  You can sign up for your local RSS feed here.

Preparing for an Interview

Again, the online course provides very detailed information on the best ways to prepare for an interview.  Additional sample interview questions can be found here.

Traveling to an Interview

In today’s economy, the trips to an interview are not always covered by the prospective employer.  If you are looking to travel for less, click on the following links for discounts on travel, airfare, hotels, etc.
