Taking time off for you each day can lead to better productivity.

I’m posting this now because I need to re-commit. It was written a while back but I did not follow this advice last week and it showed. Time to follow my own advice…
Are you getting all you can out of this life? Are you living the greatest vision of yourself you can imagine? Contributing significantly at work? Enjoying great relationships?
In these interesting economic times, many people are struggling to maintain a positive focus and feel they are not getting the most out of their job and life.
It’s these times that lead to additional stress and cause people to stop doing the things that make them feel their best and therefore they stop performing at their best level. Workers are unfocused, lethargic or simply ‘spinning their wheels.’ Relationships exist, but may be stunted in growth because the lines of communication are struggling.
If you find yourself in this situation, it may be a good idea to take more time off each day.
“What?” you may ask. “I’m searching for a job / trying to keep my business above water / desperately trying to provide for my family. I don’t have time to take time off.”
Yes, I know, aren’t we all?
…but this is all the more reason to take time for yourself to make sure you perform at the best level. Commit to being the ‘Best You’ with work and family.
There have been scores of research studies and professionals that have said how important it is to take time for you. By getting your body moving, your mind relaxed and your soul refreshed, you can take on life with the energized, ‘Best You,’ rather than the stressed, overworked you. I have found the importance in this many years ago and for those who have read my other posts know my best work is completed during what I call my “post workout high” when I’m feeling great after a good workout. Just to throw in a workout plug, the best type for me is right in line with what CrossFit founder Greg Glassman writes in What is Fitness:
“… strive to blur distinctions between “cardio” and strength training. Nature has no regard for this distinction.”
This time for you may be a workout or it may be meditation or it could be filled with music. Find what works best for you. You may want to use these moments to reflect on positive aspects in your life or focus on ideal future visions that lie ahead. Tony Robbins refers to this time as your “Power Hour,” but whatever you want to call it, take it.
Sure, it may take time from calling those prospects or moving forward on your day’s to-do list, but when you return you sure are going to have more energy and better productivity and thus a higher likelihood of success in your endeavors. Plus the reduced stress will lead to better relationships.
I’ve talked to many people who may be in the most stressful times of their lives, but when they go workout or take time for themselves, “the stress goes away.” It’s a bit like magic, but the human body is an amazing thing so put it to work and watch your mind relax and soul refresh and get ready to be more focused and productive.

So go enjoy time for you and let us know what you do for your ‘me time’ to increase productivity and how it has impacted your everyday life!

Just finished a pretty well-known book (Oprah endorsed!) which touched on this same topic- “Eat Pray Love”
The author took several months away for traveling and meditating and spending quality alone time with herself. Although not everyone has that luxury, even a few minutes a day spent in meditation has millions of followers and believers across the world who are reaping the benefits of lower stress and balance in their life.
A wonderful “me time” that many can also enjoy can be found if you walk out the door. Yes, it’s always great when you don your running shoes and plug in your earphones for a brisk walk (or “run” for those with better, younger knees), but don’t discount the stress relief and joy of tending to your homespace and garden. Sitting in the grass, pulling weeds, dead-heading spent flowers, coaxing new growth while allowing your thoughts and dreams to wander … very refreshing for the mind, body and spirit. Your physical actions of raking and mowing and carrying and digging can actually add up to a 10K without your even knowing it! Does anyone have a backyard filled with autumn leaves that need to be raked into a couple of piles? I know of a little leprechaun who would love to hide beneath them.
